Geo Nodes Guide

"This addon should be the official one lol Describing what particular Geo Node does is like telling us the mysteries of the universe! We need it more than the oxygen! XD"

"Hey! I love it, and it's what I've been dreaming of since I started with GN not too long ago. Is it open source? I want to help translate it into Spanish!"

"Although I don't need it at this moment, what a wonderful idea for an addon. I would definitely use this (and could have used this in a recent foray into geo nodes)."

Never Google a Geometry Node Again

Geo Nodes Guide is a Blender addon that shows instant documentation inside the editor when you hover over any Geometry Node. No more tab-switching to look up what a node does or how to use it.

✨ Features

Instant Hover Documentation Just hover over any node and get a helpful tooltip with everything you need to know - description, common uses, pitfalls to avoid, and real-world examples.

332 Nodes Documented Comprehensive coverage of Geometry Nodes, including mesh operations, curves, instances, volumes, simulations, and more.

Practical Examples Each node includes real workflow examples, not just technical definitions. Learn how to actually use the node, not just what it does.

Common Pitfalls Avoid frustrating mistakes with warnings about each node's quirks - like which inputs expect radians vs degrees, or when you need to realize instances first.

"Often Combined With" Suggestions Discover which nodes pair well together. Stop wondering what to connect next.

Non-Intrusive Press ESC to dismiss tooltips. Toggle on/off anytime. Stays out of your way when you don't need it.

FAQ (a word with the creator)

Who are you?

I am not much, just an engine of the initiative.

Why this addon?

Geometry nodes are painful even to watch, let alone learn. However, they become extremely powerful once you know how to use them. The guys at Blender receive a lot of backlash due to the steep learning curve. I think we should help them instead of complaining about how hard everything is. We should be grateful to Blender for creating the nodes in the first place.

I love our community, and I wanted to create something that everyone can contribute to. I believe we can build fantastic things together. I am just a starting point, a setup phase, version 0.1. Now you come in and make this big.

Who are your favorite Blender creators?

Grant Abbit and Jayanam helped me a lot when I was starting back in the days on a poor laptop and no second monitor. Gleb A. always has something I would gladly watch. Not to forget Andrew, our king. I also like askNK when he hits me with some crazy news and discoveries, as well as InspirationTuts.

Do you have any plans for the future with the Geo Nodes Guide?

I have many. Not all nodes are covered yet, so I'll focus on that first. My OCD needs to eat, eventually.

It would be nice to get some feedback so I can improve where needed. That's why I added a feedback form to the addon. Don't hesitate to throw fire at me. I'm in for some tough love. If some explanations or examples make no sense to you, please let me know, and I'll fix them in the next iteration. That Google Form is automated to create a task on a Trello board, so I don't get lost in sheets. I may even open the board at some point if the interest grows.

I'm also thinking about adding beginner-friendly templates. This is where I need community input. I'm envisioning something like this: use those 10 nodes, connect them in this order, and here is why it works that way. Just like you would teach it in a class. User clicks on a template, the addon generates the nodes and explains the reasoning behind it, and the result is visible in the viewport. We should keep it simple and rewarding so people can learn and actually enjoy it. But that's always the tricky part. It's much easier to complicate things, rush, and look smart.

I hover over node A and read the guide. Then I hover over node B, but I still see the guide for node A. Is this is bug?

No. I wanted to avoid the guide changing each time you touch a new node. That seemed hectic to me. You may want to have the node A guide visible while you are clicking on the other nodes it mentions. You may want to try out an example or tweak the settings the guide talks about. When you don't need it anymore, you press ESC and hover over the next node. Hope this is not too inconvenient. I'm open to alternative solutions.

Where are you based?

In Croatia.

What do you do for a living?

I'm an IT project manager, currently working in a startup. I was a high school teacher in my previous life, so I have that educational drive in my veins.

How old are you?

I'm ancient.

Why is the addon free?

Why is Blender free? Let's make this world a better place.
